Church of St. John of St. Paul

FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
I would like to bring to your attention a number of items that will be taking place here at St. John's over the next couple of weeks and months.

The Bishop has asked us to take up the Annual Catholic Appeal the Weekend of February 12/13th. This is the 32nd year of taking up this Appeal. The Bishop has emphasized that he would like to see a greater number of people participate in the making of the goal. Over the last ten years we have been very successful in making the financial goal, but the Archbishop would like us to emphasize a greater number of people who participate across the entire spectrum of our parishes. The Goal for the Archdiocese of St. Paul is $8,480,000 dollars. The bishop has assigned (St. John's of St. Paul) a goal of $16,042. (If we were absolutely fair and divided it up per parish our goal would be $38,026 or about $97.25 cents for each of our households that helped us make our budget.) If we break this down from the families who helped us to stay within our budget last year this would be 391 families or individuals. In order to make our goal we would need an average commitment of $41.28. It would be nice if we could make this goal the first weekend. Remember the bishop requires us to follow up here locally twice through direct mail. The cost to too our parish is about 600 dollars to do this direct mail each time when you consider the costs of postage, personnel and material. This year, our rebate that comes back to St. John's Education program is directed more specifically toward our making of our assigned goal. In the past we got a straight 25% of whatever was collected, this year it will be figured from the amount we pledge minus what we are under in terms of the goal with the rebate figured from the difference.  Please begin to consider how you might like to help us in this endeavor.

We will be listening to Father Victor Warkulwiz this weekend at all the Masses. Remember Father is trying to help us to participate in the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Perpetually.  We will begin this Adoration at the "Church of the Blessed Sacrament."  We will need close to 700 people to volunteer to make this a success.    Because Father will be staying with us from January 21st through the 31st it is possible that he may have a few Masses with us during the week.  Remember that Father will not only be here but at the surrounding parishes throughout this week.
